The Money Check-In

A 15-minute weekly practice for looking at your money clearly, without judgment.

The Money Series Planner's Framework

Money rules everything around us. The question is: are you running it, or is it running you?

Beauty Boone · The Money Series

Planners review their numbers briefly and regularly, not because money is everything, but because clarity is a form of power. This check-in borrows that practice and makes it yours.

Set 15 minutes aside. Answer honestly. You do not have to fix anything today. The goal is just to see.

What it is Skills & Drills: The Money Series™

A self-paced curriculum that teaches you to manage your money the way a professional planner manages a business. Built for people who are smart, capable, and tired of feeling behind with their finances.

This check-in is your first drill.
The method The Planner's Framework

Borrowed from 20 years of retail merchandise planning: brief, regular, judgment-free reviews that build your awareness over time. You look, and what you see shapes what you do next.

Your answers stay with you. This page does not save, store, or send anything anywhere. What you type lives only in your browser, for this session. When you close or refresh the page, it is gone. Fill it in, then save a copy using the print or PDF option below.
Layer 1 Where You Are Your real numbers, right now, without story.
Layer 2 What Moved What came in, what went out, what changed.
Layer 3 What You Notice Patterns, feelings, and what you want to do differently.
01

Layer 1: Where You Are

Fill in the numbers as best you can right now. Estimates are fine.

Checking Balance as of today
Savings Balance all savings accounts
Bills Due committed obligations, next 14 days
Income Expected confirmed or likely, next 14 days
Total Debt Carried credit cards, loans, and other balances owed (not bills due, but what you owe in total)
Your 14-Day Money Picture Updates as you type. Based on the Planner's Framework.

This is a simplified version of Open to Buy, a tool planners use to see how much is truly available to move after obligations are met. It shows you what is real.

Net Cash Position Not yet Checking + Savings minus Bills Due. What you actually have after known obligations.
Projected End Balance Not yet Net Cash Position + Income Expected. Where you will likely land in 14 days.
Coverage Ratio Not yet Income Expected ÷ Bills Due. Below 1.0 means income does not cover what is owed this period.
Open to Spend Not yet Projected End Balance minus your reserve. This is what is truly free to move.
Planner's note This is your snapshot. A planner looks at numbers the way a doctor looks at vitals, to understand what is happening.

Layer 2: What Moved This Week

Think back over the last 7 days. What came in? What went out?

03

Layer 3: What You Notice

This layer is about patterns and feeling, not arithmetic. Answer honestly.

How does money feel to you right now?

04

Bought & Bothered

Habits shape cash flow as much as arithmetic does. Let's look at where the money quietly goes.

Planner's note Awareness before action. You don't have to cancel or change anything today. Just name it.
05

One Thing Before Next Week

This practice only works if something moves. Name one thing, small or large, that you will do or look at before your next check-in.
